Bloxham Village Gardening Club Program for 2006

  • January - Seasonal planting demonstartion
  • On Monday 23rd January 2006 at 8.00 pm - We had a talk given to us by Harriot Rycroft, head gardener from Whichford Pottery. She gave us a wonderful talk and demonstration on how she plants the various pots produced by the pottery.
    She brought along some lovely pots and plants which were sold at the end of the talk and we were even treated to a voucher each to be used on our next visit to Whichford Potteries.


  • February - The flowers of Iran
  • On Monday 27th February at 8.00 pm - our much travelled chairman Peter Sheasby talked to us all about the trip he made this year to study the forna and flora of Iran.



  • March - Water gardens
  • On Monday 27th March at 8.00 pm - Gary Knight of Warwichshire College of Agriculture gave us an indepth (sorry for the pun) talk on the subject of ponds and other water features in the garden.


  • April - Pests and Diseases in the garden
  • On Monday 24th April at 8.00 pm - Reg Moule will visit us again to talk about Pests and diseases in the garden.


  • May - Bloxham Village Gardening Club Annual Plant Sale
  • Our annual plant sale takes place once again in the garden of No. 7 Courtington Lane, Bloxham on Sunday 21st May at 3.00pm.
    Refreshments will be available for a small fee with all monies collected going towards the running of the club.
    Anyone donating plants is asked to bring them to the above address by midday of the 21st in order for them to be priced and laid out.
    Please support this event and bring along your friends, neighbours and the sunshine, the more the merrier !!!


  • June - Evening Garden Visit
  • On Monday 5th June there is a trip to Woodchippings, Juniper Hill, Nr Brackley NN13 5RH. Tele: 01869 810170.
    This is a gem of a garden in the heart of Lark Rise in Flora Thompson’s WW1 book . At this time of the year you should see the old roses and alstroemerias amongst other lovely plantings.
    We will be leaving the Elephant & Castle Pub at 6.30 pm to be there by 7.00pm and the cost of entry is £2.50 each.


  • July - Afternoon Garden Outing
  • On Sunday 2nd July there is a trip to Spetchley Park and gardens which is 3 miles east of Worcester.
    The grounds cover some 30 acres and boasts a collection of plant treasures from every corner of the world.
    It is open on Sundays from 2pm to 6pm. We will be leaving the Elephant & Castle Pub at 12.30 pm to be there by about 2.00pm. Please pay on entry £5.00 each for adults. Their telephone numbers is 01453 810303.

  • July - Evening Garden Visit
  • On Monday 10th July there is a trip to The Old Rectory, Mixbury, Nr Brackley,NN13 5RR.Tele: 01280 848336.
    A mixture of traditional country garden and modern planting. We will be leaving the Elephant & Castle Pub at 6.30 pm to be there by 7.00pm.
    Please pay on entry and try to have the exact money if possible. The cost of entry is £4.50 each inclusive of refreshments.


  • August - Afternoon Garden Outing
  • On Sunday 20th August there is a trip to Garden Organic Ryton in Warwickshire countryside.
    Cost is £4.50 Adults, £4.00 Senior citizens, £2.00 Children (5-16). We will be leaving the Elephant & Castle Pub at 1.30 pm. Their telephone number is 02476 303517


  • September - Organic Gardening
  • On Monday 25th September at 8.00 pm - We are looking forward to a talk by Paul Chaplin on the subject of Organic Gardening.


  • October 23rd - Oxfordshire in Bloom.
  • On Monday 23th October at 8.00pmJohn Allcock will be giving us a talk of “Oxfordshire in Bloom”.


  • November - Bloxham Village Gardening Club AGM
  • On Monday 27th November 2006 at 8.00pm, the clubs AGM will take place followed by some early Christmas cheer supplied by the club and food provided by the members and there will also be a raffle to enhance the Christmas feeling.
    Have a great time and don't forget to circulate and get to know each other. See you all next year !!


  • December - No meeting
  • There is no meeting as such this month but I will keep you posted as there may be something in the pipeline.
    Happy Christmas from all the committee and see you at our January 2007 meeting.
