He began with a photo of his grandfather and others in the early 1900s in Bronte country carring out tanning. He outlined for us the varied uses of leather, and the processes that skins have to go through before becoming the finished product. There was originally a great use if it in the textile trade and other industrial machines, but as machines changed there was less of a need for the leather belts. From being an 'unknown trade' to us , it is now unfortunately becoming a dying trade. He concluded a most interesting talk with some samples including one made from kangarro skin.
